A Community Responder Team Supervisor explains COMPASS response calls: 1) secondary responses, where police or fire arrive first and then request COMPASS for situations like mental health crises, substance use, or homelessness; and 2) direct responses, where dispatch sends COMPASS when there’s no safety risk or medical emergency. In both cases, a social worker and a peer with lived experience respond to provide compassionate, trauma-informed assessment and connect people to appropriate resources.
